Why Alentra Exists
The job market today is crap, and I've experienced it from one end. Sure it's crap, but should we be wasting our time applying for different jobs when we can just create one profile and get matched automatically? And you know, do something else with our time, like learning a new skill.
Now that AI has become so advanced, we can use it to our advantage to make the job market better. AI can analyze our profiles and match us with the right jobs, and we can just sit back and let it do the work.
My name is Dlovan Sharif, and I'm a software engineer based in Stockholm, Sweden, who's passionate about AI and its potential to transform the job market. I'm excited to build Alentra and make it a reality.
Before I started working on Alentra, I would apply to 50 jobs a week and spend hours on LinkedIn. The usual response was "We'll get back to you" or "Thank you for your interest", sometimes. This went on for 2 years, using different methods and advice: cold outreach, mass applications, qualitative company study, networking, and I was getting tired of it.
If we calculate how many days I wasted applying to jobs, here I'll do the math: 40h × 52 × 2 = 4,160 hours, or 173 days. That's a lot of wasted time. All I learned is that the job market is broken, stuck in the 1990s.
I decided to build Alentra to make the job market better. Alentra solves the problem of job seekers and recruiters by using AI to match job seekers with jobs that align with their values, skills, and personality.
The Evolution of Alentra
Originally, I just wanted to create a job matching tool instead of a platform, by scraping job ads out there, matching them with users, and providing the results. But then I realized, this isn't strong, because the hiring pipeline is broken at the first stage: matching candidates with jobs. Might be wrong, but that's my take. Recruiters just don't know what they're looking for, and they don't have the time to find out.
